General Information:

Thanks to Parent Volunteers: Thank you to the parent volunteers who came out to help meet and greet parents at the Kindergarten Orientation! It was exciting to meet our new students and their parents! Also, thanks to our parent volunteers who drove students for the grade 5 orientation day!

Parent Volunteers this week: in advance, we are grateful to the parents who will come out this week to help support the pizza lunch on Wednesday, the bike rodeo on Thursday and the PAC Bottle Drive on Saturday!

English Ivy: You will notice that the English Ivy that was growing on the front cement wall at the the school has been removed. English Ivy is an invasive plant that grows and spreads quickly. The Garry Oak trees in our neighbouring Garry Oak Ecosystem are at risk of being taken over by the English Ivy.

Ivy is one of our most prevalent and damaging invasives in the region.  It impacts the trees, but it does damage and disruption to the whole ecosystem.  It becomes a ground cover that chokes out other plants, changes the soil, and affects the things dependant on these – insects, animals, etc… thus degrading and sometimes eliminating our native ecosystems.  There is more information on the Saanich website: www.invasives.saanich.ca and on the provincial website: www.bcinvasives.ca

The bare wall will be  power washed and treated for a mural. Over the next few months and into the new school year, we will be going through the process of having a mural painted. It will be our goal to have students involved in the creation of mural that represents who we are at Rogers. Stay tuned!
