General Information:
1. It's cold and flu season. If your child is ill, please keep him/her home. We appreciate that we are all working on reducing the spread of colds and flu at school.
2. OSC is taking registrations for their Winter Camp Program.
3. Under the current job action, the Ministry of Education wants to ensure that all students continue to receive a report card. You will receive a report card for your child but unfortunately, this report card will not contain all of the information that you have come to expect, including progress in specific curricular areas as well as other aspects including behaviour, social responsibility and attitude.
The School Act, under Section 5(9) of the School Regulation, outlines the responsibilities of the principal, including ensuring that you receive a minimum of three written reports on a form ordered by the Minister of Education or on a form approved by the Board of Education. It is, for this reason, that schools throughout the Province are sending home report cards even though they might not include the student’s academic progress.
Please note that should you desire to have information about your child’s progress you may contact your child’s teacher. A report card will be coming home on Friday, December 2nd.
4. We are now approaching the season when inclement weather may affect the safety and welfare of students. In particular, snowy weather has the potential to cause school closure or some School District 61 services to be suspended. During inclement weather, information about schools will be updated continuously on the Greater Victoria School District 61 website at http://www.sd61.bc.ca/. Within the Greater Victoria School District, the Superintendent of Schools will provide media outlets with information about the status of our facilities and transportation services by 6:30 a.m. Our school blog will also be updated for potential school closure due to weather.
Have a wonderful week!
